Visiting ‘22 charities in 22 countries in 22 weeks’ the ‘Real Way Down’ is an expedition through human suffering and kindness. The project will support each of our partner charities (list of partner charities) through the production of promotional videos, as well as through financial donations, and in this way offers both immediate and long term support. The series of films will be broadcast on the ‘Community Channel’, as well as via our multiple media partners, and with other such initiatives, hopes to use innovation and creativity as a powerful tool within development.

Patchwork World Cup and 'Unreal Way Down' latest!

So.. it has been a little too long since the last blog entry, and so much to talk about. Progress has been good, and we have many new exciting developments.

The 'Unreal Way Down' is now all fully booked in, and will be taking place on September 19th at Hinton Airfield on the Northamptonshire/Oxfordshire border. It will be an early start for the 9 divers, with the training starting at 9am, although it is planned that we'll head up on the 18th, and camp out prior to the jump. Footage will be up on the website shortly after the 19th.

Patchwork World have linked up with the 'Women's Interfaith Network', and on Sunday 17th October, we will be holding the first Patchwork World Cup, at the WIN Party in the Park, at Mile End Stadium. It will be a 5-a-side football tournament, involving 22 teams, one representing each country on the 'Real Way Down'. It will be £20/person to enter, and 7 players in each squad (first 5 teams special offer £100/team). This price will include free food, courtesy of one of the festivals caterers, a free t-shirt, a free dvd of the event (1 per team), and a minimum of 4 games, on excellent facilities. The winners will also receive winners medals, and the Patchwork World Cup, along with prize money of £250. We will promoting this event and signing up teams in the coming weeks.

In addition to this, we now have all of our charity projects confirmed. Our final four countries, namely Italy, Croatia, Bosnia, and Turkey, now all have projects, and info will be up on our website shortly.

We have also begun the long quest for equipment sponsors, and have thus far receive 6 Cooper ST Tires, courtesy of Cooper Tires ltd, who supply tires for the Dakar Rally and have a superb reputation for product quality. Land Rovers UK, who do fantastic work with there 'Vehicles for Aid Agencies' project, also have agreed to supply some of the parts needed for the vehicle prep. The car is currently in the expert hands of 'Felthams Garage' in Somerset, who are supporting us no end with the preparation of the vehicle, and work has begun on getting it up to scratch. We are also helpful of getting support from Trek Overland, who do fantastic work on Land Rovers, with a Howling Moon rooftop tent, and Tracmat, who are potentially going to supply us with some sand ladders. We continue to seek more assistance in this department.

We are working on a great deal of partnerships, and as well as WIN, we are in advanced talks with charity 'Gemin-i', whose work I can't applaud enough. Gemin-i is an educational charity helping children around the world to share ideas and work together for a brighter future. Their Rafiki online network, connects over 60,000 children in 120 countries, and they run fantastic projects to get them talking about issues such as Fairtrade, HIV/Aids, conflict resolution etc. We are in talks about potentially linking some of these schools together during our trip.

We have also recently linked up with a new charity called 'Greener Villages', who are looking to run a pilot project in Zanzibar, focussing on waste management and recycling. Their CEO Carrie has a great vision, and we will be working together to help spread their philosophy throughout the developing world.

Keep posted for more news to come.

Peaace,

Matt
