So After the success of our first fundraising event, the 'Real Way to get Down', through which we raised nearly £800, we are now preparing for our second such jaunt.
The 'Wheel Way Down' is a bike ride, a bike ride that is to collect a car. Yes, we are now owners of a not yet, but soon to be expedition ready 1989 Land Rover 110 Station Wagon. It is in Somerset, and thus we shall spend the weekend of the 21st May cycling to pick it up, in the hope that in doing so we can raise funds to cover the cost of having bought it, and hopefully some costs towards prepping it for the trip.
The journey is approximately 170 miles, and we shall be doing this in 3 days, which is fine, but then we ain't no pros, so bum sores, and knee interference are highly likely, especially as I have tonight found myself in the 'shouldn't have played football with that swollen knee' brigade... oops! I shall be joined by at least 4 other cyclists in Tom Price, Joe Cooper, Tom O'Neill, and Guy Rolfe, although there are rumours of a certain Broom-Fendly dusting off the old 2 wheeler and joining in the fun. The trip will also be filmed by Patchwork World's Video making machine, Philip 'Da Burbs' Wright, and supported by someone driving a car (let us know if you can).
We have spoken with two Somerset Landy specialists in Felthams and Land Rovers UK, and both have agreed to do some of the prep work for us as sponsors. How much, is not yet determined, but we are hoping that a combination of my persuasive tongue, and price's little nipples in lycra, will secure as much assistance as possible. We do however also need sponsorship!!
We can't get a 'Just Giving' thing set up, as we dont have our charity number yet, and also don't really wanna pay £12.99/month for the privilege!! We do, however, have a much more basic online sponsorship platform at http://www.sponsorformsonline.co.uk/wheelwaydown.asp. You can't give us any money here, but you can pledge it to us, and then we'll get in touch once the ride is complete to collect the money, either in person or into our charity account etc. Any help you can offer us in this respect will be appreciated immensely, and really will help us to achieve our vision!
That apart, we just keep plugging away!! I have gone about the business of signing up official 'Patchwork World' employees this week, and so would also like to welcome to the family; Tania Gobena, Ero Seagul, Rachael Cann, and Iain St John, who all bring a wealth of experience and enthusiasm. Hopefully one day, they will be able to make a living helping 'Patchwork World' to grow.
We've also had good news in that we almost certainly have a project confirmed in Bosnia, and are just waiting for confirmation this week, which is fantastic. Look out for more info to follow. We now just need projects in Italy, Croatia, and Turkey. If anyone can help in that respect, that would be sweet.
If anyone wants to help us in anyway, or support our cause, please feel free to call me on 07853157860, or email me at matt@realwaydown.com.
Peace
