So if the civil conflict in Syria wasn't enough to worry about, our car has begun to show some signs of fatigue, after approximately 3000 miles of driving. We took him into a garage in Diyarbakir yesterday (14th) to have a quick service, and to change the oil filter. As we went to leave, however, the ignition was only working intermittently. They had a quick look under the hood, and told us that there was a problem with the starter motor, and they didn't have the right part there. We shrugged our shoulders and left, confused, and slightly disappointed that our visit had in fact made the car worse.
Later on, we decided to hit the road anyway, and deal with any issues as they came. It didn't take long, and before we had even made it out of the city, the car cut out and on attempting to restart showed no signs of life. We popped open the hood, and after a quick inspection I noticed that the ignition wire was completely disconnected. Luckily we were just a short push from a mechanics, and so with some local help we pushed it across and pointed out the issue to the mechanic. He slid underneath the car, and after some fiddling about, managed to reconnect the wire. The ignition is now working fine, however the car is still not 100% happy, and continues to cut out when stopping.
We continued on to where we are now, in Sanliurfa. Apo, who has adopted the role of our guide here is sourcing a mechanic for us, and hopefully tomorrow we will have sorted the problem.
