After spending the last four days with Marine Mammal research and conservation charity, 'Morigenos', in Slovenia, we are preparing to move on and head to Zagreb in the morning.
It feels as though we have been here forever, and with it being the first charity, thus far, that we have stayed with, we have really got to know them on a personal level, and have developed a real connection, and lasting friendships.
Tilen, the founder of 'Morigenos' set up the charity ten years ago when he was only 17, driven by a passion towards Dolphin Conservation. Before then there was no official data on Dolphins living in the Slovenian Sea, and even during his studies, he was told by tutors that dolphins simply didn't reside permanently there, but only passed through on occasions. Today the story has changed, and this afternoon we witnessed for ourselves Slovenian children being taught about their dolphin population, which is extensive and permanent.
The entire project has such a fantastic and contagious vibe, and we have all been truly inspired by their work. They all currently work on a voluntary basis, and several of them combine their huge commitment here with either studies, work, or both. One of the people who has been here virtually from the start, Polona, even manages to fit in time to volunteer for a charity supporting mentally ill children as well. The energy levels, passion, and commitment is mind blowing, and the optimism and positivity they conduct their work with is a lesson to all of us.
I will write more about our experiences here when I have a little more time and energy, as currently i really can't give them the write up that they deserve. We are heading off in the morning to Zagreb, and the next chapter of our adventure. keep posted for further updates.
