With 10 months to go, the energy of the adventure that lies ahead is well and truly alive!! I have made a conscious decision this week that my tenure as a tree surgeon's assistant is coming to an end, and have begun applying for jobs once again in the charity sector. Much has been learned about pruning, planting, prepping and practically nothing about plant species, however it was always a career break, and my heart is beckoning me back to charity based work.
I originally applied for the 'Tree Surgeon's Assistant' position in may 2007, as a result of craving time and space to develop my philosophy towards development. My experiences in Tanzania, and at both 'CARE', and 'The Honeypot', as well as my short time studying International Relations at London Met, had all been an inspiration to me, yet not one with any clear map . I knew what I wanted to do, I just didn't know how best to achieve it.
I feel that now, after 3 long years, my vision, with 'Patchwork World', has become clear, and all that I learn and observe leads me more towards feeling it will be a vital component of development within the charity sector. The importance of greater cooperation between like minded individuals and organisations to achieve shared objectives is undeniable, and a desperate need for a middle ground between the focussed and innovative, and the professional and experienced is something that needs immediate attention. I believe the common ground created by a shared online platform will help shift development away from the egoist and more towards the selfless aspirers. 'Patchwork World' is founded on the desire to aid the achievement of tangible goals, from a grass roots level.
Real Way Down is advancing well, and we are confident that progress is on track. The website is now live, and exciting new developments within both Bulgaria, Kenya, and Sudan have further contributed to this positivity. Although there is much left to do, I am happy that we have a great team and an exciting project.
Now, all i have to decide is whether the next few months will be spent in Surrey or Haiti!!
